At least three assist moves are included with every Kameo, adding numerous new tools. For example, let’s say I’m playing a Baraka that has no top or bass notes in the middle of the chord combo. I’m not someone who enjoys the aids to fighting games that usually come with tagging systems, and I’m more of a 1v1 fighting game person, but their implementation here is extremely well thought out and only enhances an already solid game. the basis on which the MK1 is based.

Most of all, I loved seeing these new classic fighters, especially those who have historically been relegated to lesser roles. For example, Baraka and Reptile were never really sidekicks in the previous games, but in Mortal Kombat 1 they became major players with their heads and defining moments. In addition, the script is full of many in-universe spoilers, which seems like a nice reward for a longtime fan of the series.
Low-end fighting games have always been great at offering story modes that are basically the gaming equivalent of popcorn movies, and Mortal Kombat 1 is no exception. The campaign offers no new gameplay innovations, but the six hours are great, explosive, well-made and fun in every sense of the word. If this sounds familiar, it’s exactly what I said three years ago in my Mortal Kombat 11 review about the single-player story mode.
And if I reviewed Mortal Kombat, there seems to be an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” philosophy in play among the Neatherrealm designers, so if you love it as much as I do, you’ll probably like it that way.
